  • The United States and Germany followed, each spending around US$85 billion

  • Western European and developed nations occupied much of the remainder of the top ten

  • Further down the ranking

  • Malaysia and Taiwan rounded out the list

biggest spender、well ahead、expenditure等范围充分;spending in travel介词不当,allocating有预算意图色彩。

  • spending around US$85 billion in travel

    通常为on travel。

  • only about half of China’s expenditure

  • placing it well ahead of all other nations

  • which was, although substantial, only about half of China’s expenditure

The bar chart illustrates the top ten countries with the highest travel-related consumer spending in 2014 in US$ billions. Overall, China was by far the biggest spender on travel, while Western European and developed nations occupied much of the remainder of the top ten. The least spending among these ten countries could be seen in Taiwan and Malaysia. In more detail, Chinese citizens’ spending on travel in 2014 reached nearly US$110 billion, placing it well ahead of all other nations. The United States and Germany followed, each spending around US$85 billion in travel. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom spent close to US$55 billion, which was, although substantial, only about half of China’s expenditure. Singapore also featured on the list, allocating roughly US$25 billion to travel in 2014. Further down the ranking, South Korea and Hong Kong both reported travel spending of approximately US$20 billion each. India spent just over US$15 billion, while Malaysia and Taiwan rounded out the list, with spending in the range of US$10 to 12 billion.
